Principle Investigators

Elham Salimi

Dr. Elham Salimi is an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada. She received the B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 2007. She received M.Sc. and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Manitoba, Canada, in 2011 and 2016. Dr. Salimi’s research is focused on developing microfluidic biosensors for medical and biological applications. Her interdisciplinary research involves taking engineering approaches to design and fabricate lab-on-a-chip devices for cellular analysis of biofluids.

Greg Bridges

Dr. Greg Bridges is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Manitoba. He obtained his PhD in the area of applied electromagnetics from the University of Manitoba in 1989. He conducts research in the areas of microwave instrumentation and materials measurement techniques, wireless sensor systems, scanning probe microscopy and microfluidic biosensors. He is a principal investigator with the Advanced RF Systems Laboratory, National Microelectronics and Photonics Testing Collaboratory, and an associate editor for the IEEE Journal of Electromagnetics, RF and Microwaves in Medicine and Biology.

Douglas Thomson

Dr. Douglas Thomson is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Manitoba. He received the PhD degree from Stanford University, CA, USA, in 1986. His current research interests include biomaterial sensing in microfluidic systems, passive wireless sensors for civil structures monitoring, and scanning probe microscopy. He is the co-inventor of a number of instrumentation systems, including a record-setting capacitance sensor and a passive wireless sensor for the use in monitoring civil structures. He has authored over 100 journal papers. He holds 7 patents as a co-inventor.
